Cheri Lee Charlton
As an illustrator, my work is strongly influenced by the illustration and media to which I was exposed as a child. Authors and artists like Maurice Sendak and Beatrix Potter, whose classic children’s books are characterized by the dream-like lines and visual forms of Art Nouveau and as well as the classic psychedelic poster art my parents preferred hanging in our home. I enjoy incorporating elements from vintage greeting cards, my grandmother’s keep sakes, and, of course, the whimsical aesthetics that came alive in traditionally animated films and televisions shows of my childhood.
I have exhibited artwork in New York, Cleveland, Connecticut, Chicago, West Virginia, and Florida since 2007. I have been designing and executing large-scale public and commercial for both exteriors and interiors murals since 2009 most recently finishing a large collaboration funded by the Mile of Murals in Rogers Park this past fall 2016.
